Today, I'm happy to present you the Debian package zlib1g, which is
part of the libs section, and maintained by Mark Brown
<broonie at debian.org>. 

This package contains : compression library - runtime.

zlib is a library implementing the deflate compression method found
in gzip and PKZIP.  This package includes the shared library.
